WEST COLUMBIA - Charles Edward “Eddie” Taylor, Jr., 76, of West Columbia, passed from this life on Saturday, July 17, 2021 after a brief illness. Born on March 17, 1945, in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late Charles Edward, Sr. and Agnes Love Taylor.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” McDowell Taylor; his daughter, Cindy Lynn (Jay) Zeigler; and son, Charles Edward “Chuck” (Nikki) Taylor III. He is the very proud granddad to Kailey Zeigler, Jalynn Zeiger, Bradley Truesdale, Allison Taylor, and Matthew Taylor. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Frit Taylor; his brothers-in-law, whom he loved like his own sons, Bill (Brenda) McDowell and Jimmy (Dawn) Callahan and many nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, Eddie was predeceased by his brother and best friend, Olin Taylor; his brother-in-law, Richard Calahan and his son, James Edward “Eddie” Elam.
Eddie met the love of his life, Betty, at Dentsville High School and they married on May 25, 1963. After several jobs, he began his career as a Business Agent for BCT Local 503 and retired as President after 35 years.
Eddie was a dedicated and loving family man who loved to be around people. He enjoyed family vacations, traveling, fishing with his best friends Olin and Steve, and cowboy movies. He was a dedicated family man who never missed a school or church event where his kids or grandkids were involved.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at State Street Baptist Church, 1420 State Street, Cayce, on Saturday, July 24 at 2:00 p.m. A private graveside committal service will be held at a later date.
