Charles Douglas "Doug" Charlton

Doug was born September 15, 1938 in Radford, VA to Charles Ward Charlton and Mildred Lorton Charlton. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his step-father, Calvin Monroe Griffis.

A graduate of University of South Carolina, he earned his undergraduate degree and a Master of Education.

Doug began coaching football, track, tennis, golf and basketball at Dreher High School, then beginning in 1978, began coaching at Richland Northeast High School.

Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Jean Manning Charlton; a daughter, Renee Lumpkin, Columbia, S.C.; a son, Scott Douglas Charlton (Chris), Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Brenda Burr (Wilson), Seneca, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Peyton Lumpkin, Manning Lumpkin, Mary Frances Coker (Tyler), Sarah Charlton, Christopher Charlton, Douglas Charlton (Madison), Joseph Charlton (Brook); two great-grandchildren, Jacob Coker, Hunter Coker and Tucker Charlton who is planning on making his arrival in February.

Celebration of Life services will be held 6:00 p.m. Thursday November 17, 2022 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
