Carmelee Ann Gursc

Carmelee was born on February 4, 1938, to Elizabeth and Joseph Galasso in Connellsville, PA. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA, with the Class of 1958. She loved helping others and served many throughout her life.

Carmelee married the love of her life, Gustav, on September 3, 1960. They had 61 amazing years together and enjoyed everything from visiting beaches and traveling the world to watching nature from the swing in their backyard. She was a beloved, devoted proud mother and grandmother who had a kind soul and a beautiful smile that spread happiness wherever she went. She was an avid reader and took great pleasure in singing, playing the piano, shopping, cooking, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her siblings, Joseph Galasso, Loretta Whipkey Stomber, Frank Galasso, and her sister-in-law Laura Gursc.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Gustav C. Gursc of 61 years; her two daughters, Karen Lanke – Davie, FL, and Patricia Costa (Dennis) – Indian Trail, NC; and five grandchildren: Kyle Lanke (Joelle), Matthew Costa (Emily), Caitlyn Lanke, Melissa Costa and Dylan Lanke.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Columbia, SC at 1:30 p.m. on January 31, 2022, followed by interment at 3:00 p.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that a memorial gift in Carmelee’s name be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
