COLUMBIA – Carmel Rose Williams, 69, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021. Born on January 12, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Robert Eugene Williams, Sr. and Anna Rose Tronco Williams. She dedicated her life to working with her family at the Columbia institution, Lizard’s Thicket, where she helped create and grow the restaurant to the success it is today. She had a passion for travel, especially to her beloved Italy. She was a wonderful cook, a skill that was passed down to her from her mother, Anna.
Surviving are her sons, Chase Hicks (Margaret) and Rob Vance (Gretchen); grandchildren, Joe Hicks, John Hicks, Zeb Vance and Isla Vance; siblings, Bobby Williams (Barbara), Mark Williams (Carole), Jimmy Williams (Donna), John Williams (Monica) and Anna Williams Rossi; godmother, Mella Tronco Martin and many dear cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her sister, Sally Williams Rentz; and husband, Robert Benton.
A visitation will be held from 11:00am until 1:00pm Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
