C. Gene Smith

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for C. Gene Smith, 84, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Gene passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019. Born in Lockhart, S.C. on October 4, 1934, he was the son of the late Bernice Harris Orpilla and James Robert Smith.

Gene served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired from Fluor Daniel Construction Company as a construction manager. He was a 30+ year member of AA.

Surviving are his brothers, Chris C. Orpilla (Carrie) of Columbia and James R. Orpilla of Los Angeles, CA; son, Steven W. Smith (Ellen) of Blythewood; nieces and nephew, Susan Bradley (Dennis) of Lexington, Regina Taylor (Richard) of West Columbia, James Orpilla, Christina Orpilla, and Victoria Orpilla of California; and ten great-nieces and nephews; and grand-nephew, Adam Stanke. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Fernande “Nonnie” Stanke.
