Bobbie “Bonnie” Carter Strange

COLUMBIA - Bobbie “Bonnie” Carter Strange went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, September 8, 2022. She was born on November 29, 1941 in Columbia, SC to Gary E. Carter Sr. and Gertrude Perry Carter.

A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive visitors from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Bonnie attended Dreher High School, and after graduation, joined the staff of Julia Bates School, where she taught piano for several years. Afterwards, she was employed and retired from the South Carolina Employment Commission with 32 years of service.

She was raised with Christian values, which led her to become a Christian. She was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years, where she served as an organist, pianist, and later as Choir Director. More recently, she was a member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church.

She will be remembered for her love of music. She would play the piano at all hours of the day or night, with the family gathering around the piano at her home, and at family reunions, while she sang and played the piano as everyone joined in.

Bonnie leaves behind to cherish fond and precious memories her sisters, Sondra “Bebe” Carter Dyches, Dianne Carter Sparrow (Irv), sister-in-law, Gail Cook Carter, numerous nieces and nephews, and close family friend, Wayne Turnipseed. Wayne was a life-long and faithful friend, who helped Bonnie in every way. He was her true and trusted friend who was always there when she needed him.

Bonnie was predeceased by her parents, husband, Robert “Bob” Strange, brothers, John W. Carter, Gary E. "Buck" Carter, Charles "Bo" Carter, and sisters, Catherine Carter Meetze, Jeanette Carter Medlock.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kieauna Davenport, her caregiver for her kindness, and taking such special care of Bonnie.
