COLUMBIA - Beth Walker, an elegant and dignified lady, peacefully and gracefully went to join her Lord and Savior on February 9, 2015. Service will be held on Friday, February 13th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Park and interment to follow in the mausoleum. Born on December 12, 1907 near Pond Creek, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late John Vantile and Myrtie Bomgardner Quigley. Beth, the youngest of six, moved with her family to Churdan, Iowa where her parents instilled religious and family values that she carried throughout her amazing life. Beth met her husband Spencer Borden Walker who was from Allendale, SC in Chicago at the 1933 World’s Fair. Throughout their 68 years of marriage they enjoyed traveling the world and in later years focused on their hobbies in their cottage at Still Hopes until Spencer’s death in 2003. Beth was also preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Beth and Spencer were lifelong dedicated members of Washington Street United Methodist Church where Beth was a member of William Capers Sunday class and the United Methodist Women. Beth also belonged to the Iris Garden Club and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, reading and playing bridge and gin rummy. Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff at Still Hopes for 29 years of aiding and providing the compassion and respect Beth so richly deserved. Memorials may be made to Washington Street United Methodist Church, Still Hopes Episcopal Home Residents Fund or the charity of one’s choice.
