Anne was born July 11, 1931, in Spartanburg, S.C. She was the daughter of Roy Blanks Hart and Essie Virginia Anderson Hart and the stepdaughter of Mary Elizabeth Edwards Hart.
Anne was a 1948 graduate of Dreher High School. She received her R.N. degree in Nursing at the Baptist Hospital in Columbia in 1951. Her career at the Baptist Hospital spanned over 40 years, and she was an active member in her Nurses’ Alumni Association.
Anne was married to Wayne Douglas Johnson, Sr. for 47 years, from November 1955 until his death in February 2003. Anne and Doug were blessed with a son in 1958 and named him Wayne Douglas Johnson, Jr. Together, Anne, Doug and Wayne lived a full, happy life in their loving home on South Holly Street in the Rosewood Community of Columbia.
Anne and Doug became devoted and active members of Rosewood Baptist Church in 1955, and their dedication and faithful service to their church and community for over 65 years will be remembered by all.
Anne was active at Rosewood Elementary School and received a lifetime PTA membership due to her many years of volunteerism and participation. She remained faithful to the Rosewood Mothers’ Group, meeting once a month for the next 50 years.
Anne enjoyed her active life and cherished her home of 65 years. She loved needle work, gardening, collecting and baking and was well-known for her delicious Divinity, Fudge and “Christmas Candy”, which were all handed-down family recipes. She welcomed all into her beautiful home with acceptance and non-judgment and gifted them with her radiant smile and listening ear. She was truly “a very special light” to all who came in contact with her.
Anne is survived by her loving son, Wayne Douglas Johnson, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Hart Kurutz of Vero Beach Fla. and Nancy Hart Howe of Lawrenceville, Ga., sister-in-law, Jane Spindle Hart of DeLand, Fla., and many beloved Hart, Johnson and Anderson cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Douglas Johnson, Sr., her brother, James John Hart, and her parents, Roy Blanks Hart and Essie Virginia Anderson Hart and her stepmother, Mary Elizabeth Edwards Hart.
