Ann Hendrix St. John, 82, of Columbia, SC, died May 27, 2024. Annie Beatrice Hendrix was born January 9, 1942, in Columbia. She was the daughter of Arthur Henry Hendrix and Dorothy Beatrice Jones Hendrix. Ann was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She dearly loved her family, friends, church, and community.
A graduate of Lexington High School and the University of South Carolina, Ann was married to the Rev. Dr. James I. St. John with whom she shared more than six decades, happily raising their loving daughter, Melissa, teaching elementary school, working in her flower beds, and all the while being actively involved in the churches they served and throughout the community, whether as deacon at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, as a member of PEO, in the Spring Valley Garden Club, singing in the Chancel Choir, and so much more.
Ann is survived by her husband Jim, by daughter Melissa, and by Melissa’s husband Gregory Raith and their three children, Alexander, Benjamin, and Sylvie, all of Nantucket, Massachusetts. She is also survived by her brother, Sam Hendrix and his wife, Janette, of Lexington, and her sister, Dorothy Slocomb and her husband, Bill, of Leesville.
A service of Witness to the Resurrection for Ann will be held in the Sanctuary of Eastminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends following the service in Thompson Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Fund of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3200 Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29205, to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, or to a charity of your choice.
