To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the approbation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To give of one's self;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
To have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived
This is to have succeeded.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Alex Sargeant brought joy to all he knew. Well articulated, he masterfully delivered with an infusion of humor tales from life events (in long form, of course), entertaining and warming the hearts of many.
Alex was an award-winning creative writer at the highest level. He was highly respected for his intuitive, artistic, and visionary writing style. Alex’s greatest talent, however, was being the most amazing father to his beloved daughters, Lauri and Emily. His love for them and their mother was immeasurable.
As a deeply sensitive and reflective soul, Alex felt personally life’s betrayals and challenges, yet always strove to endure, make better, and forgive.
The greatest beauty Alex found was in his wife, daughters, parents, brother, sisters, friends, and beloved dog, Poe. He understood and cherished the gifts God had bestowed on him. Alex’s love of nature and its lessons and beauty were instilled in Alex by his parents from a young age and he loved spending time at his parents’ pond in Camden, S.C., and taking family fishing trips to Edisto Island. Alex was able to understand the truth and true meaning of nature’s wonders in his life. This was invaluable.
To say Alex has left this life a bit better is an understatement. His beautiful spirit and unconditional love have impacted all who knew him, in meaningful and life-impacting ways. His legacy will live on through his beautiful wife and daughters.
He breathed life into every person he knew. Alex’s life was a success.
Alex, 56, passed away at his home on Sunday, October 16, 2022. Alex was born to John Joseph Sargeant, III, and the late Mary Jeanette Campbell Sargeant in Greenwich, CT, on August 8, 1966, the last of their 6 children. At the time of his death, he was Creative Director and Copywriter at Envision Health.
