Chunk Mitchell, age 33 of Columbia, MS died Friday, January 4, 2019 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. A longtime resident of Columbia, he was a butcher with Meat Masters and an umpire in youth sports at Dean Griner. Chunk was an avid fisherman and loved all sports. He was a wonderful father who valued his children and life. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his daughters, Emma Mitchell, and Marlee June Mitchell; step-daughter, Allison Finley; step-son, Carson Finley; parents, Fred and Beth Mitchell; a brother, D.B. (Jordan) Mitchell; and a niece, Oaklyn Mitchell.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00pm on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia where friends may visit with family at 12:00pm until service time. Reverend Kenny Peavey will officiate at the service and interment will follow at Hurricane Creek Cemetery. Assisting the funeral directors as pallbearers will be Deric Hobgood, David Hobgood, Lamar Hobgood, Stevie Hobgood, Walker Hobgood, Trey Hobgood, Christopher Elliott, and Josh Haney.
