Robert “Bookie” Bass, Jr., age 60 passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023 at his residence in Columbia, MS. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and worked as a commercial truck driver for various companies including Nelson Services, and Forest Products. Robert was mechanically inclined and as a teenager developed his skills working with Prine Alinement in Columbia. He enjoyed his friendships, racecars, was an avid drag racing enthusiast, and often spent time with his family he dearly loved.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert Q. Bass, Sr. His memory will be forever cherished by his mother, Ruth Bass, and step-dad, George Bass of Columbia; his sister, Jean Fortenberry (Ford) of Foxworth, MS; uncle, Tommy Bass (Mary) of San Antonio, TX; aunts, Emma Nell Lambert, and Liz Hudson, both of Columbia; niece, Katrina Carney (Paul) of Foxworth; nephew, Richard Maliden (Jessica) of Hattiesburg, MS; special friends, Stanley Collins, and Jerry McNease, both of Columbia; and a great-niece and three great-nephews.
A visitation for Robert will be held Monday, December 4, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Columbia. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Lloyd Thompson and Reverend David McNeil will be on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Emmanuel Baptist Church and burial will follow at the church cemetery assisted by Stanley Collins, Rickey Eberhart, Terry King, Allen Fortenberry, Ford Fortenberry and Richard Maliden as pallbearers.
