Lou Cretia Williams, of the Improve Community in Mississippi, passed from this life into God’s presence on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at the age of 90. She was born in Sumrall, Mississippi to Willie and Lillie Buchanan and has been a resident of Marion County for the past 68 years. Mrs. Williams was a hairdresser and worked out of the shop in her home for many years. She was a Godly woman of deep faith and shared her faith with her community through her membership with Improve Baptist Church. Mrs. Williams enjoyed Gospel music, the Smokey Mountains, Charlie Pride and cooking for her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and will be remembered for her buttermilk pound cake.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vertis Williams; a sister, Dovie Bond; a brother, James Buchanan; a granddaughter, Lauren Petty; a niece Betty Gail Fortenberry; and two nephews, Aaron Bennett and Douglas Buchanan. Mrs. Williams is survived by two daughters, Celeste Petty (Mike) and Darlane Williams; four grandchildren, Brandon Petty (Barbie Clark), Marcus Petty, Shane Bass, and Deanna Bass; and three great-grandchildren, Sean Bass, Natalie Bass, and Deavannah Bass.
The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Darel Daniels and Reverend Johnathan McLemore, will be at Improve Baptist Church on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 12:00pm. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00am until service time and burial will follow in the Improve Baptist Church Cemetery.
