James J. Walters, of Foxworth, Mississippi, passed from this life into God’s presence on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the age of 79. He was born in Jones County, Mississippi to Eulon and Lucille Walters and has been a longtime resident of Foxworth. James worked for 38 years selling auto parts for NAPA and Auto Zone. He was a people person. He loved people and enjoyed the interaction with his customers as he helped them with their parts purchases. James was a man of deep faith who served his Lord and his community through his membership with Pearl River Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. He served his church family as a Sunday School teacher, a Deacon, Song Leader, and the church Clerk. James was a kind, caring person, a straight shooter, and a practical joker who will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather totally devoted to his family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Yvonne Walters; two sisters, Lula Mae Ellzey and Cathy Trovinger; and his parents, Eulon and Lucille Walters. James is survived by four daughters, Janie Walters of Foxworth, MS, Jennifer Ellis and her husband, Steve of Collins, MS, Jackie Madden and her husband, Jerry of Sumrall, MS, and Joy Pullen and her husband, Paul of Cove, AR; a son, Jimmy Walters and his wife, Gwen of Foxworth; two sisters, Bobbie Clark and Carolyn Williamson, both of Laurel, MS; fifteen grandchildren, Brittany Morgan (Ronald), Jimmy Walters, Jr. (Britany), Donavon Jones (Megan), Ashlyn Walley, Dalton Walley (Abby), Clint Ellis (Lorianna), Sarah Gutierrez (Bruno), Rebecca Hill (Sam), Joshua Pullen (Lakin), Adrienne Lindemann (Taylor), Amber Madden, Julia Pullen, Jamie Wilson (Chris), Danielle Pullen, and William Pullen; 21 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation for James at Colonial Funeral Home on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service, officiated by Brother Zach Smith and Brother Steve Ellis, will be in the funeral home chapel at 11:00am on Saturday, January 28, 2023. Brother Richard Magee will lead the committal service in the Pearl River Landmark Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery where James will be laid to rest. Jimmy Walters, Jr., Dalton Walley, Ronald Morgan, Joshua Pullen, Sam Hill, and Clint Ellis will serve as pallbearers and Bruno Gutierrez and Donavon Jones will assist as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorials be made in honor of James to the Pearl River Landmark Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in care of Richard Stringer, #1 Rip Lane, Sandy Hook, MS 39478.
