Gayle Tullos Yager, of Columbia, Mississippi, passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s on Saturday 21, 2024 at the age of 84. She was born in Marion County to Aimsworth and Sarah Tullos where she has remained a lifelong resident. Gayle was a devoted wife and mother who worked hard for her family. She ran a dairy farm with her husband for 20 plus years and taught at Hub High School (HomeEc), West Marion Elementary and the Columbia Training School (retiring after 14 years). She was talented with a needle, creating beautiful clothes and embroidery shared with family members. She captured her best world with photographs-family, grandchildren and nature- and gifted us with pictures of treasured memories. She was an active member in the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Columbia. She also took karate for a while and could do karate kicks even in her very late years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Yager; parents, Worth and Sarah “Sadie” (Bass) Tullos; sisters Jane Kloman and Rosa “Connie” Amberson; and brothers, Olouse Tullos, Cassell Tullos, and Ronald Mack Tullos. Survivors include daughters, Julia Gaye Sculthorpe (Bruce) of Muscle Shoals, AL, Lisa Yager (Mike Novinski) of Columbia, Rebecca Ellis (Paul) of Mt. Olive, MS; grandschildren, Helen Sculthorpe, Cory Ellis, Sarahanne Ellis, Seth Ellis, Mica Novinski, and Worth Novinski, great-grandson, Eric Ellis; sister, Sarah Hutto; and brothers, John Lee Tullos, Rex Tullos, and Tim Tullos.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Gayle will be held at Colonial Funeral Home on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 2:00pm. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00pm until service time. She will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.
