Edward L. Lowe, Sr., of Columbia, Mississippi, passed from this life into God’s presence of Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at the age of 95. He was born and raised in Columbia where he lived until he joined the U.S. Navy on May 27, 1945 to serve his country during WWII. For the next year and two months Ed served on a minesweeper, the USS YMS468, in the South and Central Atlantic, in the North and Central Pacific, and the areas around Japan, China, and Korea. After his separation from the Navy, Ed moved to the Gulf Coast to work at Ingalls Shipbuilding and was the Union Representative for the Pascagoula Metal Trades Council AFL-CIO until retiring after 27 years. He later worked for many years as a campus security officer with the Jackson County Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Described as a social butterfly, Ed loved people and enjoyed talking to anyone. He never met a stranger and was an excellent storyteller. His favorite pass time was visiting with his buddies at Hardee’s solving the world’s problems. Ed will be remembered for the deep love that he had for his children and grandchildren, always acknowledging every special occasion in their lives.
He was preceded in death by his father, William “Bill” Lowe and his mother, Belle McKenzie Goff. Ed is survived by a daughter, Tammy Jean Petrovitz and her husband, Richard; a son, Edward L. Lowe Jr. and his wife, Tabitha; three grandchildren, Kendra Gibson, Tommy Lowe and his wife, Skyeler and Brandon Lowe; and seven great-grandchildren, Hartley Porter, Braylee Lowe, Haley Lowe, Oaklyn Lowe, Isabelle Lowe, Ruby Lowe, and Link Lowe.
The funeral service for Ed will be at the graveside in the Hurricane Creek Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 11:00am where he will be laid to rest.
