Visitation for friends and family will be held at Woodcrest Chapel, 2201 W. Nifong Blvd. in Columbia on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. A memorial service and Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 p.m.
Bill was born in Wichita, Kansas to Remington and Beatrice Johnson on August 8, 1936.
After graduating from Wichita High School in 1954, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served honorably as a Radioman. He met his wife, Sue, while stationed in San Diego at Coronado Island. They married on May 21, 1959 and recently celebrated 56 wonderful years together.
Bill was employed for 42 years in the trucking industry. He retired as a Branch Manager from Yellow Freight in 2000. He was a 38-year member of the Columbia Luncheon Cosmopolitan Club. He was co-founder and first President of the Columbia Show-Me Club. He enjoyed traveling to many places in the U.S., Canada and abroad.
Church was another important part of Bill’s life. He was a devout Christian and attended Woodcrest Chapel where he served faithfully on a regular basis.
Bill loved music and played the bass tub with the “Cross Country” band. They performed at local nursing homes and at the Senior Center.
Bill and Sue were members of the Show-Me Travelers RV group. They enjoyed wintering in the Rio Grande Valley for 7 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sue, and their children; son Mike (Carol) and their children Emily, Anna, and Ethan of Olathe, KS; daughter Pam Moser (Mitch) and their children Jake, Ben and Becca of Columbus, OH; and son Bob (Shari) and their son Keifer of Olmsted Falls, OH; and a loving sister by marriage, Betty Bunch of Columbia, MO.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Cosmopolitan International Diabetes Center, 1 Hospital Drive, Columbia, MO 65201
