Wayne Sanders, 82, of Columbia, MO passed away Friday, August 10, 2018 at his home after a long battle with Parkinson’s. Visitation will be from 1-2:30pm, Monday August 13, 2018 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church 903 Bernadette Drive Columbia, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:30pm, Monday at the Church followed by burial in Memorial Park Cemetery Columbia, MO.
Wayne was born February 20, 1936 in Union City, Indiana to Norman and Irene Snyder Sanders. In 1952, he graduated from Ansonia HS in Ansonia, OH. In 1958, he completed his Bachelor’s degree from Ohio State, and on August 30 of the same year, he married Joan Barga in Frenchtown, OH. He went on to complete his Master’s degree in 1965. He started his career in Ag Education, as a teacher and FFA Advisor; he then went to work for Landmark CO-OP in Ohio before moving to Columbia to work for MFA in their personnel department. After leaving there, he opened his own Managerial Consulting firm, Sanders Associates Inc., and then worked for the Department of Conservation in their HR Department. He finally retired at the age of 65, and worked as a dealer for the Isle of Capri Casino from it’s opening until his health would no longer allow. He loved his Ohio State Buckeye Football, his time with FFA, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Sanders of the home; children, Mark (Lezlee) Sanders of Kracow, Poland, Marianne (Jim) Albrecht of Columbia, Tom Sanders of Ashland, Kathleen (Jonathan) Armistead of Columbia, and Jean (Edward) Stephens of Mexico, MO; siblings, Roger (Sharon) Sanders of Dayton, OH, Marilyn Burkhardt of Hamilton, OH, and Kent (Karen) Sanders of Liberty, IN; seventeen grandchildren, eight, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. His parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Robert (Emogene) Sanders; sister-in-law, Annetta Sanders; and brother-in-law, Richard Burkhardt preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Foundation, Our Lady of Lourdes, or to Boone Hospital Hospice.
