Sandra Kay Coleman, 73, of Hallsville passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Boone Hospital. Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 9, 2023 from 2 PM - 3 PM, with funeral services at 3 PM at Memorial Funeral Home.
Sandy was born on November 30, 1949 in Columbia, the daughter of Joe Whitten Roberts and Anna Katherine (Hickam) Roberts. She graduated from Hickman High School in 1968. On November 29, 1968 she was united in marriage to Stephen Coleman, who survives in their home. They were happily married and best friends for over 54 years.
Sandy was employed for over 25 years in the Athletic Department at the University of Missouri, where she made many life-long friendships. Away from work, she enjoyed spending time with family, crappie fishing at the lake, tending to her flowers, and watching the birds, especially the hummingbirds. Sandy enjoyed traveling to Florida and spending time with her sister, Betty. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother, and she especially loved being a grandmother to Ella Nichols. She was also a breast cancer survivor and strong supporter of The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Sandy is survived by her husband Steve; daughter, Sarah Coleman Nichols and her husband Brian of Town & Country, Missouri; one granddaughter, Elizabeth “Ella” Nichols of Town & Country, Missouri; one sister, Betty Frech of Columbia, Missouri; a sisters-in-law, Carolyn Barnes of Centralia, Missouri and Barbara Benney of Hallsville, Missouri; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and her beloved dog, Charlie. She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Russel and Ethel Coleman; and brothers-in-law, Louis Frech and William “Bill” Benney.
Memorial donations are suggested to the fight against breast cancer, a cause that was very important to Sandy. Donations may be made to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in care of the funeral home.
