Ron Burgess, 82, of Columbia, MO passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Arbors at Mills Creek in Columbia. Visitation will be Thursday July 19, 2018 from 5-7pm at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West Columbia.
Ron was born March 13, 1936 in Berwyn, IL to Cecil and Josephine Filler Burgess. On November 22, 1960 he married Mary in Chicago, IL. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, and went to work for Allis Chalmers in West Allis, WI. He then served in the US Air Force where one of his duties was manning a Minuteman missile silo. The family moved to Columbia, MO where Ron would attend the University of Missouri and in 1967, he graduated with a Master’s Degree. He taught Psychology for 20 years at Columbia College before resigning in 1980. He went to work as an Engineer for the MO Department of Natural Resources for several years until he retired.
He is survived by his daughters, Karin Burgess (Tom Bredel) and Laura Burgess both of Columbia; sister, Bonnie (Ron) Nalepa of Plainfield, IL; brother, Bruce (Bonnie) Burgess of Sarasota, FL, and several nieces and nephews. His wife Mary, and son, David (Holly) Burgess preceded him in death.
