Robert was born February 19, 1922, in Chicago, IL, son of Jacob and Clara (Heyman) Weinberg. He was married in 1945, to Nina D’Ancona, who preceded him in death..
After retirement from his occupation as traveling salesman, Robert along with Nina relocated from Highland Park, IL, to Kerrville, TX. In 2009, Robert and Nina relocated to Columbia.
Robert was proud of his service during World War Two as a navigator on a bomber. He was captured by the Germans who downed the plane, and spent a year as a prisoner in Stalag Luft III, the prison camp made famous by the Steve McQueen movie “The Great Escape.”
He is survived by three sons, Steve Weinberg and his wife, Scherrie Goettsch of Columbia, MO; Zy Weinberg and his wife, Barbara Vauthier of Burnet, TX; Tracy Weinberg and his wife, Joan Nagel of San Marcos, TX; plus three grandchildren, Sonia, Seth and Elena. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Kitty Abels.
