

Richard Alan Munson, age 65 of Columbia, MO, passed away on November 29, 2021 at University of Kansas Hospital. Richard was born on June 10, 1956 in Kansas City Kansas; a son of Wayne and Martha Munson. He was united in marriage to Cindy Willis for 9 years. Together they had two sons, Richard Jr Munson and Ryan Munson. He was united in marriage a second time to Laura McMillen for 37 years. Together they have one daughter, Jessica Munson.
Richard graduated from Lafayette County C-1 high school, Higginsville, MO in 1974. He joined the Air Force in 1975 as a Morse Systems operator, stationed in Crete. After honorable discharge he studied Radiologic Technology and received his certification. He accepted a Job at Ellis Fischel Cancer Hospital as a radiology technician. He then continued his career with the VA hospital in Columbia, MO for 30 years until his retirement in 2012.
All through school he was in boy scouts and accomplished becoming a top rank Eagle Scout. He used those skills when camping and hunting. He also loved adventure.
He was an accomplished songwriter, winning a certificate of achievement from Billboard song contest in 1995 with his song titled: "Is There Any Other Way, But Up?". He played the piano and guitar writing several songs for, and with, his family. A man full of compassion, empathy, and his love for Jesus, he lived his life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed by many family and friends.
Richard is survived by his wife, Laura Munson of Columbia, MO; father, Wayne Munson of Higginsville, MO; sons, Richard Jr. Munson and Ryan (Katherine) Munson; daughter, Jessica (Jeremy) Bevans; brothers, Jerald Munson, Russell Munson, and Joe (Kathy) Munson; sisters, Marlene (Mike) Jackson and Dailene (Tom) Ceballos; many nieces, nephews, and 8 grandchildren. Richard was preceded by his mother, Martha Munson and brother, Martin Munson.
The visitation will be at 10:00 am and the service will follow at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Powell officiating.
There will be a celebration of life held at 1st Baptist Church in Higginsville, MO for friends and family at 5pm, dinner to be provided.
