He was born October 15, 1951, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, to Paul Henry and Evadna Johnson Knies. He grew up in Ridgewood, graduating from Ridgewood High School in 1970. He later graduated from William Patterson College receiving a BS degree in accounting.
He was a skiing enthusiast in his younger years. He was an avid sports fan, always following the New York Giants and the New York Mets. He also enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and music of the fifties and sixties.
Following college, he worked as a sports writer and accountant at the former Monroe City News in Monroe City, Missouri. He later returned to the New York City area where he worked for several companies before suffering a stroke in 1999. He then resided at Hillcrest Residential Center in Columbia, Missouri, for 22 years.
He is survived by a sister, Barbara Sell (Mike) of Columbia; 4 nieces, Jennifer Plourde (Robert) of Columbia, Holly Higginbotham (Roger) of Edmond, Oklahoma, Lori Krebs (Steve) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Melanie Knies-Scala (Philip) of Mastic Beach, Long Island, New York; 6 great-nieces; two great-great-nephews, two great-great-nieces; and his beloved kitty, Lucy. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Philip L. Knies.
Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio, in the Knies family plot beside his parents.
