Paul James Heavin, known to some as Bud, 96, of Columbia MO passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Boone Health. A Graveside service conducted by Pastor Tracy Cook will take place on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 2:30 p.m.
Paul was born, August 2, 1925 in Phelps County, Missouri the son of Dewey D. Heavin and Iva (Huskey) Heavin. On August 5, 1947 in Newburg, MO, he married Ethel Maxine Cooper who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are his brother, Jesse Heavin of Rockford IL and sister, Mary Francis of Rolla MO. Paul wanted to serve his country so strongly, he fudged on his age to be able to serve with his friends during World War II.
Paul was a member of Dripping Springs Church, and his last years of employment were with Gary Naugle Construction of Columbia MO. Paul was an avid outdoorsman, always fishing and hunting. He began hunting at an old abandoned homestead (The Cabin) in 1969, later purchasing the property in 1981 with three men, Jim Laybourne of Shawnee, KS, Raymond Keller of Fairgrove, MO, and his son-n-law, Mike Wyatt, creating everlasting friendships. Paul would recite many stories of the cabin adventures.
Paul is survived by his children, James Heavin, Donald Heavin, Connie “Susie” Wyatt (Michael), and Dewey Heavin, of Columbia MO; nine grandchildren, Tracey Nichols of Hallsville MO, Justin Wyatt (Keri Stetham) of Ashland MO, Kaitlin (Katie) Wyatt (Nick Palmgren) of Columbia, MO, Jason Heavin of Gallatin TN, Dana Heavin (Bryant) of Columbia MO, Diane Wyatt (Charles) of Fayette MO, Debbie Garrett (Steve), Darla Sapp of Ashland MO, and Steve Thomas of Hartsburg MO; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Judy Murphy of Rolla MO; and many cousins, nieces and nephews of Rolla, St James, Newburg, MO and Rockford IL. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bonnie; brother, Jesse; and sister, Mary Francis.
