Mike was born April 4, 1972, in Columbia, Missouri the son of the late James Dodson and Nancy Dodson Scott. He was a 1990 graduate of New Franklin High School after which he joined LaCrosse Lumber where he was employed until October of 2000. He then made the move to Mid-City Lumber where he was an outside sales representative for 23 years. Mike had a passion for his career and considered each customer a friend. In March of 2009, he married Marsha Nichols Ballenger in Orlando, Florida. He enjoyed playing golf, boating, socializing, and traveling. For many years they enjoyed traveling to their favorite location Bucerias, Mexico where they developed lasting friendships with many snowbirds whom they now consider part of their family.
Mike is survived by his wife, Marsha Dodson of Columbia; son Kalen Dodson of Columbia; daughter, Kayla Ballenger of Nashville, Tennessee; mother, Nancy Dodson Scott of Columbia; Donnie & Sandy Baumgartner, in-laws; Jeff Nichols & Karen Geotz, in-laws; Brayden Nichols, nephew; all of Columbia. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins in Missouri and Florida.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Estill Dodson; his paternal grandparents Estill and Fern Dodson, Franklin, Missouri and his maternal grandparents, George and Fay Foster, Moberly, Missouri.
Those who knew Mike would agree that he’d want to be remembered by being celebrated with family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Dive Bar on September 30th from 3-6pm, 1116 Business Loop 70 E, Columbia, MO 65201.
