A Memorial Service will be held at 9:30 AM on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Alive in Christ Lutheran Church, Columbia, Missouri. A second Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cedar Park, Texas.
Kathryn was born in Readlyn, Iowa on Jan 23, 1945 the daughter of Arnold Christian Meyerhoff and Lillian (Ernsting) Meyerhoff. She enjoyed life in her small town and attended St Paul's Lutheran Grade School in Readlyn. She graduated from Wapsie Valley High School where she played basketball, sang in the choir, played piano and baritone.
She had a varied professional career beginning as a flight attendant for Braniff Airlines; followed by employment at NASA. She was employed as a legal secretary. On August 10, 1968 she was united in marriage in Readlyn, Iowa to John Hirsch as he entered the seminary to be a Lutheran Pastor. Later she went back to school and received her BA in Education from Eastern Michigan University. She used her teaching degree as a preschool director and kindergarten teacher at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Brighton MI and several schools in Texas.
Kathy enjoyed tending a bountiful vegetable garden, sewing clothes for her family and reading. Later in life she discovered her gift for art. She loved pencil drawing and oil painting. She cherished time with her friends playing Bunko, attending bible study and volunteering at the local library and church.
Kathryn is survived by her husband: John; their two daughters: Beth ( Tom) Lange of Concordia, Missouri; Teresa ( Matthew) Sorlie of Seattle, Washington; five grandchildren: Alexandria ( Aaron) Smith; Jonah Lange, Brooke Lange; Noam Sorlie, Mila Sorlie; two sisters: Roberta Brewer; Margaret ( Joel) Ruprecht and a host of cousins; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; James Meyerhoff; Robert Meyerhoff and one sister: Joan Trinkline.
