Judith Jane Denney, age 79, of Defuniak Springs, Florida, passed away on August 14, 2022 after a long battle with COPD and spinal stenosis. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of her passing.
Judy was born in Columbia, Missouri on July 21, 1943 to Wayne and Mary Alice Crane. After graduating from the University of Missouri in 1965, with a degree in education, she taught elementary school in Columbia. Judy married Charles Hugh Denney in 1965 and they had two children Jane Ann and Curtis Hugh. She was active in many organizations including Delta Gamma, her teachers Association, church. and she was always helping in her children’s activities including 4-H, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
She retired in May 1998 from Columbia public schools after many years of teaching. After her retirement she moved to Kansas City and she took care of her grandson, Julian, and enjoyed picking him up after school and taking him to his activities including boy scouts and trumpet lessons.
She recently moved to Defuniak Springs, Florida with her daughter and son-in-law and her favorite dog, Otis. She loved her view of the lake and had befriended her neighbors and enjoyed talking to them every day.
Judy was on hospice when she passed and was thankful for the good care she was given from her Regency Hospice nurses and Olive Branch private caregivers.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Alice Crane; her sisters, Gwen Cockrell and Jackie Stamper; her ex-husband, Charles Hugh Denney; and sister-in-law, Jo Ann Fisher. She is survived by her children, Curtis Hugh Denney as well as Jane Ann Denney and her husband Kerry Flanagan; her grandson, Julian Andrew Duff; and her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Judy requested any memorials go to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of her sisters.
