Joseph “Joe” Edward Whitworth, age 65, of Columbia, MO passed away at his home on December 17, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Cleo Whitworth and nephews, Tyler, and Blaine Whitworth. He is survived by his son Joel (Erin), grandchildren Clare, Hannah and George of Arlington Heights, IL, son Jonathan, grandchild Copper of Moberly and daughter Jillian, grandchild William of Columbia, Brother Barry (Diane) of Garden City, nieces, nephews, other family, and friends
Joe was born August 19, 1957, in Warrensburg, MO, and graduated from Windsor High School in 1975. He enjoyed playing sports; especially football and basketball. He went on to attend Central Missouri State University, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
Joe started his early career between Springfield and Kansas City but shortly thereafter, moved back to Windsor, where he owned and operated Joe’s APCO and started a family. He went to work in the banking industry where he worked at Citizens Bank of Windsor and United Missouri Bank, N.A. While living in Windsor he coached t-ball, little league baseball, and soccer. He was very active in the community and served as President of the Windsor Chamber of Commerce, where he enjoyed writing monthly newsletter articles. He was also a board member of the Whiteman Air Force Base Community Council.
In 1991, Joe moved with his family to Columbia, MO where he worked at various car dealerships as a Finance Manager, including Loveall RV-Camping World-Freedom Roads, LLC and as Indirect Loan Administrator for Missouri Credit Union, retiring in May 2022. Later in life, Joe found an appreciation for world travel and took trips to Europe, the Caribbean, Egypt, and Mexico. People say that Joe never met a stranger, and the stories from these trips only strengthened that statement.
Joe was a member of the Mizzou Alumni Association, Boone County Chapter and also served as a Mizzou Ambassador.
A visitation will be held from 10-11am, and Celebration of Life at 11am on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Hadley Funeral Home in Windsor, MO.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Blaine Whitworth Foundation or Windsor High School Master Scholarship Endowment Fund and may be sent in care of Hadley Funeral Home, 405 East Benton Street, Windsor, MO 65360.
