Jerry Palmer

Funeral service will be 10am, Wednesday, June 7 at Memorial funeral home in Columbia; burial will follow in Memorial park cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8pm, Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Home.

Jerry was born, October 4, 1946 in Boone County, MO to James and Nellie Calvert Palmer. He was a 1964 graduate of Hickman High School, and spent his entire life in Boone County. On June 6, 1960, he married Susie Starke in Columbia. He served for 25 years in the US National Guard, and for the Columbia Police Department Reserves. He began working in the grocery business for East Gate Grocery before going to work for the University of Missouri Hospital Cafeteria, where he would retire as assistant manager. He took medical retirement from the University and would receive a Heart Transplant on January 26, 1995. Jerry enjoyed old westerns, and was a friendly man that never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, of 47 years, Susie Palmer; son, Bill (Misty) Palmer of Bevier, MO; grandchildren, Trinity Palmer of Columbia and J.D. Palmer of Bevier; sisters, Ruth Ann Rice and Karen (Pete) Rayhart both of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronald Dale and Larry Edward Palmer; and sister, Sharon Kay Palmer.
