James R. Jacob

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Missouri United Methodist Church, McMurray Chapel, 204 S 9th Street, Columbia, MO. Graveside services will be on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.

Jim was born on January 17, 1927 in Chicago, IL the son of Jesse Cecil and Julia A. (Hoffman) Jacob who preceded him in death. He was married on June 10, 1950 to Carolyn B. Smith in Columbia, MO who survives him. He served in the US Army and was a graduate of the University of Missouri.

Jim took over the family business, J. C. Jacob Mechanical Contractors, in 1967, which he operated for 40 years. Jim enjoyed international travel, family bike trips, and supporting the Missouri Tigers. He was also an active volunteer in many community groups, including Golden K Kiwanis, the Show-Me State Games, and the Mizzou Track Program.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Jane Jouret (Gene) of Columbia, MO, Joan Grossman (Dave) of Boca Raton, FL, and Rebecca Neumann (Martin Engman) of Atlanta, GA; one son, Phil Jacob (Sera) of Greensboro, NC; two sisters, Virginia Itschner and Judy Creasy; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Roy Jacob.
