A visitation will be held Thursday, March 17th, 2016, from 6-8pm at Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Friday, March 18th at 11am, also at Memorial Funeral Home.
Jimmy was born May 16, 1939 in Milan, MO the son of James Earl and Bonnie Lee (Hodges) Courtney who preceded him in death. He was married on March 9, 1957 to Carolyn Ann Bean in San Diego, CA. They Moved from San Diego back to Kirksville, MO where they both worked at McGraw-Edison before Jimmy started working at UPS in 1967 and was transferred to Columbia in 1970. He retired in 1994 and Carolyn preceded him in death (1997). Jimmy was an avid computer enthusiast who enjoyed making home videos, loved to watch NASCAR and fly remote control airplanes. Carolyn and Jimmy spent a great deal of their life mapping out the family genealogy.
Jimmy is survived by his children: Lee Ann (David) Sapp of Franklin, TN, Debbie Lynn (Kelly) Benedict of Columbia, MO, James Dale (Tracey Miller) Courtney of Fulton, MO and David Anthony (Amy) Courtney of Hallsville, MO; two sisters, Patricia Rish of Centralia, MO and Joyce (Butch) Filkins of Ashland, MO; brother-in-law, Ronnie (Janet) Bean of Chicago, IL; 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Courtney of Kirksville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Donor’s Choice. His favorites were St. Judes, World Vision, The American Lung Association and The American Heart Association.
