Hubert “Frankie” Crane, 90, of Columbia, passed away Sunday, May 7th surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. Visitation will be Thursday, May 11th from 5-7pm at Memorial Funeral Home 1217 Business Loop 70 West Columbia and from 10-11am Friday. Funeral service will be 11am, Friday May 12th at Memorial Funeral Home with burial and Military Honors to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Frankie was born March 16, 1933 in Jefferson City to Cruse A. and Ethel Grace Rippeto Crane. He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1953-1955 as a tank mechanic. After his service, he returned home and moved to Kansas City to attend mechanics’ school. On June 2, 1956, he married Belva Sue Moreau at her family’s farm. He worked several jobs over the years; farming, driving and delivering for farmers, and for Vandiver Feed. He also worked as a carpenter for the University of Missouri for several years before retiring in 1995. He loved fishing, camping, and auto racing, he was an active member of the American Legion Post 152 in Ashland and he loved his family dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Belva Sue Crane; a daughter, Marla (Daniel) Johnson of Ashland; son, Michael (Kathy) Crane of Ashland; grandchildren, Heather (Benjy) Waller of Elk Grove, CA, Brandi Johnson of Ashland, Torie (Nick) Schaefer of Marshall, and Austin (Erin Wiley) Crane of Millersburg; great-grandchildren, Nell & Helen Waller, and Gracelynn Marie Schaefer; sisters, Esther (Skeeter) Tiffany and Kay (Dale) Stone each of Columbia, many nieces and nephews and a loving extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Buford (Maggie Lou) Crane & Lonnie (Thelma) Crane; nephew, Kevin Crane; and great-nephew, Caleb Johnson.
