Hazel Joan “Phillippe” Pahl, of Millersburg, Missouri, passed into the arms of our Lord on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at the age of 81. Hazel was born in Rocheport, MO on January 6, 1939, the youngest of 9 children, to the late Bura & Mary Ellen (Reid) Phillippe. She married the Love of her life, Errol Pahl, on February 14, 1959.
She was the Devoted Mother of Cheryl Pardue, Cindy Quick (Tim), Randy Pahl (Tiffany), and Eric Pahl (Ellen); Cherished Grandmother of Kenneth Holland (Heidi), Crystal Essen (Sean), Misty Wilkerson (Jeremy), Kylie Murray, Clifton Pardue (Charlotte), Brandelynn Wisdom (Ron), Meagan Pryor (Josh), Sunny Prenger (Brady), Shaine Pahl (Cammie), Gracie Pahl (Jeff), Reece Pahl, and Parker Pahl. She was also blessed with 23 Great-Grand Children, 1 Great-Great Grand-Child, Sister-in-Law Esther Flaigle; and many nieces and nephews.
For those who lost count of that:
She had One love of her life for the past 61 years,
Raised Four children who blessed her with:
Twelve grandchildren,
Twenty-Three great grandchildren,
One great-great grandchild,
And ump-teen adored nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings: W.J. Phillippe, Forrest “Cricket” Phillippe, Herbert Phillippe, George Eldon Phillippe, Norma Moneymaker, Ray Phillippe, Leo F. Phillippe, and Laverne Bell.
Hazel lived a full life with Errol and the family they built. Together they had many adventures in their 61 years of marriage. She was the greatest listener to all, even complete strangers. Listening was one of her finest skills. She was a member of the Millersburg Christian Church and for many years, taught Sunday School for young children. She enjoyed reading all the time, especially her Bible and Laura Ingalls Wilder books, fishing, rocking babies, sewing, and cooking.
For those who got the opportunity to experience her cooking, we pretty well called her the Queen of making pecan pies, potato salad, and “fried apples and onions” in particular. She once read of “fried apples and onions” in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s “Little House on the Prairie” books and recreated the recipe on her own. She spent countless hours canning thousands upon thousands of jars of green beans, grape jelly, dill and limed pickles, and her famous green tomatoes. A couple of her favorite treats were “raw potato and onion sandwiches” and frog legs. Hazel always looked forward to the traditional Phillippe Oyster Suppers. Getting to see the extended family and loved ones, many of which are still here today.
Hazel was known as Joanie by many, and that included her and Errol’s lifelong friends, the late Robert “Bob” and Shirley Laux. They had more adventures than we could possibly count and all are fond memories, forever cherished. She was dearly loved by all and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will take place Friday June 26, 2020 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Memorial Funeral Home followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 am. Services will be live streamed on the funeral home's Facebook page at Memorial Funeral Home, Crematory, and Memorial Park Cemetery/Columbia.
