Jerry Buening, 81, of Columbia, MO passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Memorial Funeral Home with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may gather at the funeral home from 10:00 am - 11:00 am before the service.
Jerry was born September 14, 1940 in Greensburg, IN to Edward and Clara Harpring Buening. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1964 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1969 from Purdue University. On August 22, 1964 he married Carolyn Illingworth in Lafayette, IN. He began working at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in 1969 as faculty in veterinary pathobiology and in later years in administration, retiring in 2002 and continued working part time there through 2005.
After retirement he took on several hobbies including weaving, woodworking/carving, tie-dying, and pottery and his children/grandchildren have several of his creations (he was talented) and there is much of it in the house still. He also worked with Habitat for Humanity for several years in building houses and he and Carolyn were active in Toastmasters for many years. Jerry was a very kind and loving husband, dad, and grandpa.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children, Vincent (Delfina) Buening of Pinckney, MI and Lisa Londeree of St. Louis; brothers, Steve (Marlene) Buening and Ed Buening; grandchildren, Dorothy and Edward Buening and Suzanne and Kathryn Londeree. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Toni Schwering and Mary Ann Schwering.
