Franklin (Frank) Brown died peacefully at about 8:30 pm on August 7, 2024, at University Hospital. He was surrounded by about half of his 50 family members, which included his wife Margaret (Peggy) Brown, five children – a son and four daughters – many grandchildren, and even several great grandchildren. Frank was 88 years old.
Frank lived a long and wonderful life with his wife of nearly 71 years, a true love story. They traveled throughout their years and visited many wonderful places, creating a lifetime of shared memories. Early travel included taking his wife and five young children on camping and floating trips in the Ozarks, memories the children cherish.
Frank was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia for almost every year of his life.
Frank was a Navy and Army veteran and a reservist for most of his life. He served in the University Police Department for many years as Sergeant of the Detective Division until his retirement in 1998. Frank was an expert pistol marksman, who in his day, won numerous competitions. He helped form the Midwest Practical Pistol League, the second of its kind in the nation. Frank served as the first President.
Services will be held on Friday, August 16 at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia. Visitation will begin at 1:00PM, followed immediately by the funeral service at 2:00PM. Full military honors will be rendered in recognition of Frank's service to his country.
Frank will be dearly missed by those of us who knew and loved him, but we now appreciate this saying even more, “Don’t be sad that it ended, be happy it happened.” Dad, we will love you for all our days, but now, be with God.
