Debbie Black, 70, of Columbia, passed away Saturday, June 3rd. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date and she will be inurned in Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia.
Debbie was born June 23, 1952 in Bakersfield, CA, the 3rd eldest of four children, to James and Beverly Parks. In 1970, she graduated from Edison High School in the Bakersfield area. Early in her life, she was a stay-at-home mom while her eldest son was in school. She was a dedicated mother and was always a part of school and team activities. Her husband, Robert Black, passed away in 1989. The task to provide and care for her family was left to Debbie. She quickly completed her nursing degree at Lincoln College in Jefferson City, Mo. After graduating, she moved to Southern California to be closer to family. Debbie had a long career in nursing including Progressive Care Unit Nurse, Hospital Workmen’s Comp Manager, Hospice Nurse, Correctional Facility Nurse, and Psychiatric Nurse. Debbie excelled at nursing because of her caring heart and passion for helping others.
Debbie later moved to Columbia, Mo to be closer to many family members that had moved to Columbia over the years. Debbie was loved dearly by her family and friends. She was treasured at work, by neighbors, and acquaintances. Her ability to make things better with a hug and kind words was unmatched. Debbie will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by three children, Brian (wife Gretchen) Boughton of Columbia, Jacob (wife Katrine) Black of St. Charles, MO, and Jessica Black of Columbia; three grandchildren, Bethany Chenoweth, Zachary Boughton, and Gwendolyn Black; two great-grandchildren, Sylas Martin & Lilah Grace; many nieces and nephews, and a loving extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Black; brothers, Bruce and Steven Parks; sister, Sue Blakeman, and granddaughter, Olivia Boughton.
