Cindy Conboy, 66, died peacefully with family by her side on February 15, 2022. A memorial service was held Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Memorial Funeral Home 1217 Business Loop 70 West Columbia, and burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Cindy was born in Columbia, MO on June 24, 1955 to Bill and Nedra Conboy, who preceded her in death. She was born with a number of special needs and had the good fortune of living many years of her adult life as a client of Boone County Family Resources, where she lived in one of their independent living facilities. She enjoyed living there very much, became quite close with several staff members, and benefited tremendously from their care and services. She worked at the CMSE sheltered workshop where she retired after 20 years.
Cindy was very active. She enjoyed walking and swimming very much. She competed in the 1987 International Special Olympics and won a Bronze medal in swimming. Cindy enjoyed writing and frequently kept up with friends and relatives with handwritten letters and drawings. She self-published three small books of poetry which highlighted her love of life. She very much enjoyed spending time on her parent’s houseboat and water skiing at the Lake of the Ozarks. Cindy had an incredibly infectious laugh, and much like her parents, greatly enjoyed music and dancing. Her physical health began to decline in 2007 due to kidney disease. When she lost her ability to walk she moved from the Family Resources facility to a local nursing home where she lived the remainder of her life.
To say she was an absolutely wonderful person is such an understatement, and to say that she had an incredibly positive impact on so many people throughout her life simply fails to say enough. While it might sound like an exaggeration to say that Cindy’s love was felt everywhere she went and wherever she was, it’s not. Anyone who has been fortunate enough to know Cindy would agree that she had a very deep love of life and that she shared her love and her laugh with all those around her.
She is survived by her loving sister, Marci; her nephew Brandon and his wife Leslie; her nephew Jason; her niece, Lindsey and her partner Joe Couden, and her great-nephews Oliver Callihan and Julian Couden. She will be lovingly remembered, and missed by so many.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Boone County Family Resources, 2700 West Ash Street, Columbia, MO 65203, or to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Ste 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
