Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 3, 2021. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. both at Memorial Funeral Home. In keeping with the guidelines put forth by the Boone County Heath Director all guests are required to wear a mask, to keep social distancing (six feet apart), cough into your sleeve and wash and sanitize your hands often. Burial with Full Military Honors, will follow the service in Memorial Park Cemetery. The service will be live streamed on our Facebook page at Memorial Funeral Home, Crematory, and Memorial Park Cemetery/Columbia or from our website.
Charles was born on March 23, 1938 in Boone County, the son of Buford Wheeler and Grace Brincefield Wheeler. On October 12, 1984 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Davis Betz, who survives.
Charles lived his entire life in Boone County. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and made a career of driving trucks. He drove for his own company, Wheeler Trucking, and the City of Columbia, as well as with Columbia Ready Mix as both a driver and salesman. He played and coached softball for many years including several in the Over 60s league. Charles loved, trained, and showed horses and was a big sports fan, enjoying NASCAR and Sprint car racing. He was a loyal St Louis Cardinal and Mizzou Tiger fan, spending many years as a season ticket holder, not missing a game. His greatest hobby since retirement was fishing. He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by them and his beloved Boston Terrier, Suzy.
Charles is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his children, Tony Wheeler, Troy (Adrianna) Wheeler, Frank Wheeler, Mark (Debbie) Betz, and Tim (Tina) Betz; one brother, Delbert Wheeler; six grandchildren, Nicole Knipp, Jamie Wheeler, Emily Betz, Shelby Betz, Kelsey Betz, Lauren Betz, and Trevor Wheeler; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mike Wheeler; his sisters, Estill Batts, Cleo Mohr, Katherine Wyatt, Joy Cox, Nadine Roberts, Margaret Roberts, Marie Gibson, Barbara Rader, Sally Kaiser, Betty Lou Wheeler, and Frances Welsh; and four brothers, James; Woodrow, Claude Wheeler, and Fred Wheeler.
