Charles Eugene Rexroat

Charles was born on June 18, 1935, to James Edward Rexroat and Gladys Marie (Brock) Rexroat near Concord, Illinois. His childhood was spent partly in Illinois and partly in Missouri. He graduated from Centralia High School in 1953. Charles began his distinguished 44-year career with Kroger in 1953, working his way up to the position of Store Manager, a position he held at several different Kroger store locations throughout his career. He also served in the U.S. Army for 2 years from April 1958 to April 1960.

Charles married Marian Estella (Croswhite) McMinn on December 18, 1966. They resided in many different places during their marriage, including Mexico, MO; Louisiana, MO; Bowling Green, MO; Troy, MO; Keewanee, IL; and Columbia, MO. They were a constant source of love and support for each other and their three children, Donna Ervin, John McMinn, and James (Jim) McMinn, throughout their marriage. Although they were unable to be together on the special occasion, Charles and Marian celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on December 18, 2020, the day before Marian passed away on December 19, 2020.

Charles was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and member of the community. He was a kind-hearted man who didn’t know a stranger. One of his favorite pastimes was to venture into local businesses and strike up conversations with anyone who crossed his path. He also loved a good bargain and had impressive negotiating skills. Charles was a great storyteller, loved McDonalds, and always made fruit punch for the grandkids when they came to his house. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed hearing what his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren were doing. More than anything, he loved spending time with Marian and his family. Nothing put a smile on his face like a visit from loved ones.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Marian Rexroat; brother, James Edward Rexroat, Jr.; brother, John Brock Rexroat; son, Jim McMinn; son, John McMinn; and grandson, Jeff Hockman.

He is survived by sisters, Annetta Timmermans of Warrenton, VA, Margaret Decker of Rogers, AR, and Marie Greene of Rogers, AR; brother, Richard Rexroat of Columbia, MO; daughter, Donna Ervin of Columbia, MO; grandson, Jade Hockman (Kristen) of Columbia, MO; granddaughter, Crystal McWilliams (Will) of Columbia, MO; grandson, Chad McMinn (Sarah) of Columbia, MO; granddaughter, Michele Karhoff of Auxvasse, MO; grandson, Jim McMinn of St. Louis, MO; granddaughter, Nicole McMinn of Mexico, MO; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many more cherished family members and friends.
