Charles DeVore, 79, of Columbia, MO passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Visitation will be 10-11am, Saturday, February 3rd at Memorial Funeral Home 1217 Business Loop 70 West Columbia, MO. Funeral Service will begin at 11am, followed by burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Charlie was a life-long Boone County resident; he was born February 10, 1944 in Columbia to James L. and Emma Mae Murray DeVore. In 1962, he graduated from Hickman High School, and went on to earn his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from MU. He married Bonita Anne Russell at the Missouri United Methodist Church on April 30, 1964 in Columbia. His teaching career began in 1970 at Fort Zumwalt High School in O’Fallon, MO. The following year, he taught Distributive Education at the Vocational School in Waynesville, MO. In 1972, he returned to Columbia to teach marketing at Hickman High School. He took his D.E.C.A. students to many national contests over the years. In his earlier years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. After he and Anne retired in 2002, he enjoyed taking care of his yard and feeding the backyard birds. He also enjoyed following the Cardinals, the Chiefs, and MIZZOU Athletics. He especially delighted in spending time with his grandchildren.
Charles is survived by his wife, Anne DeVore; sons, Michael (Jennifer) DeVore of Troy, VA and James (Amy) DeVore of Valley Park, MO; grandchildren, Hannah, Nathan, Miriam, Cameron, & Morgan DeVore; sisters, Wilma Jean (Larry) Baker of Columbia and Paula (Darren) Evans of Sturgeon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister; Cynthia Ann Roberts.
