Betty Claire Anderson Huneke, 89, of Columbia, passed away swiftly and gently on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. In Missouri, a funeral will be held on Monday, July 28, at Marshfield Christian Church in Marshfield. In Iowa, a graveside service will be held at a later date. Her final resting place will be high on a hill in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she will join her husband, parents, and relatives at Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Betty was born Dec. 20, 1924, in a small rural farmhouse near Bentley and Underwood, Iowa. Her parents were William Edwin Anderson and Ruth Fisk Gravlin (Turner) Anderson. She was baptized Feb. 20, 1949, at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church of Council Bluffs, Iowa. She attended school at Bentley, Iowa, through grade ten and graduated from Underwood High School. She attended Omaha University and worked first for the Iowa Department of Welfare and then Blue Star Produce. Betty and William Huneke were married March 8, 1947, at First Congregational Church in Council Bluffs. They farmed at both Underwood and Shelby, Iowa, and moved to Marshfield in 1974. Bill farmed and Betty was receptionist for Marshfield Clinics and a clerk for Webster County Health (WIC program). She was an active church member in her community and belonged to the Shelby American Legion Auxiliary (Iowa). In the fall of 2012 she left her home in Marshfield, and made a new one at the Terrace retirement community in Columbia. She is survived by her adult children and their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her children and their spouses include Mary and Bill Kellog of Niangua, Alan and Mary Ellen Huneke of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Diane Huneke and Mike Dulak of Rocheport, and Dale and Susan Huneke of Underwood, Iowa. Grandchildren and spouses include Robert and Charlene Ornelas of Alaska, Jennifer and Charles Peebles of Missouri, Audrey Crist and Darren Kenworthy or Oregon, Bill Huneke and Andrea Munck of Canada, Steve and Kate Huneke of Nicaragua, Erin and Darin Hosback of Missouri, Daniel and Emily Huneke of Iowa, and Travis Huneke of Iowa. Grandchildren include Erica and Isabella Ornelas (Robert and Charlene); Connor, Annie, and Micah (Jennifer and Charles); Bailey, Clayton and Cody (Erin and Darin); Kieran (Audrey and Darren); Thomas and Lucas (Daniel and Emily); Pepper and Cedar (Bill and Andrea). Her family includes honorary daughter, Charlene Adkins; and step-grandchildren Tommy, Evelyn, Pearl, Sarah, Nik, and Jevin. She was preceded in death by both parents; and her husband Bill (2002); grandson Scott Ornelas died in 1994; and granddaughter Joy Ornelas died in 1986 (children of Mary Huneke Ornelas Kellogg). Her lively spirit, kindness, and compassion will be missed by friends and family alike.
