Shirley B. Hart passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on April 16, 2024. Born in Lignum, VA to Charles and Edna Brown, Shirley was the youngest of six and enjoyed being the “baby” of the family.
After graduating from Culpeper High School, Shirley left Lignum and moved to Washington, D.C. where she began her career in the Federal Government. Eventually settling in Silver Spring, MD, Shirley raised her two children, Victor and Tracey.
In October 1983, Shirley married the love of her life, Jim Hart and together, blended two families. Shirley and Jim enjoyed traveling together, their church, St. Mark’s and building many family traditions. More than anything, Shirley loved her family and friends with all of her heart.
Her husband, Jim Hart, stepson, Ken Hart, parents Charles and Edna Brown, and her brothers and sisters, Marie Alther, Gladys Truslow, Charles Brown, Ruth Ginter and Robert Brown, predeceased Shirley.
Shirley is survived by her children Victor Bailey (Terri Newman), Tracey White (Jim), stepchildren Janet McKeever (Jim) and Patricia Hatfield (Dennis), thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Shirley loved life to the fullest and always had a ready smile, hug and kind word. As she always said “My life has been wonderful. Who would have ever believed that the little girl who grew up walking barefoot on Yellow Bottom Road would travel the world and experience and see what I have.”
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Building Fund, 12700 Hall Shop Road, Highland, MD 20777.
