Scott Radcliffe, a chief scientist at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab (APL) in Laurel, MD, died February 3rd, 2022, in Howard County General Hospital at the age of 55 due to complications with bone marrow cancer and lung disease.
Scott is survived by his wife Margaret; his three children, Sarah, John, and Amy; his four grandsons Titus, Noah, Elijah, and Jacob; his parents, Ken and Gail Radcliffe; and his sister, Beth Bricken.
Scott was born on January 16th, 1967, in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in electrical engineering, and came to work for APL, where he stayed for 31 years. He also received his master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. On April 11th, 1992, Scott married Margaret, and they spent 29 wonderful years together building a home and raising a family together.
Scott was known by his coworkers as, “A national treasure, and a man of honesty and integrity who could imagine great solutions to things that nobody else could see.” Scott holds two U.S patents and was a recipient of the Alvin R. Eaton Award. His favorite hobbies were quad-copter racing and HAM radio. He was a faithful member of Chapelgate Presbyterian Church in Marriottsville, Maryland for 30 years, where he played electric bass guitar for the worship band. He was a beloved husband, father, “Papa”, coworker, friend, and believer in Jesus Christ. God used his life to bless many people and accomplish amazing things.
The visitation is scheduled for Thursday February 10th from 3- 5pm or 7-9pm at Witzke’s Funeral Home in Columbia, Maryland. The memorial service is scheduled for Friday February 11th at 11am with a reception to follow at Chapelgate Presbyterian Church in Marriottsville, Maryland. Pastor Mike Khandijan will officiate.
