Michael Kearney, eldest son of the late Peter and Nadine Kearney, was born on May 12, 1947 in Chicago, IL. He received his Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Western Ontario in 1981 and enjoyed a successful career in coastal environments and oceanography at the University of Maryland College Park. Upon retiring, he enjoyed writing, discussing poetry, history and continued to collaborate with colleagues and friends.
A Vietnam War Veteran, Michael received the Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Service Star and an Army Commendation Medal.
Michael is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Moira, son-in-law Scott, his 9 siblings (Patricia, Maureen, Kevin, Terry, Kerry, DeeDee, Brian, KayKay and Mary) as well as treasured friends Deb and Tom Laverty.
Michael will be remembered as a loving husband, father and father-in law. He was a hard-working, talented, honest, caring, and generous man. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.
