Mary Francisca Blackwell (nee Bryan) was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad on June 4, 1933. She was the daughter of Victor Bryan and Viola Barrow. She emigrated to the United States in her twenties, and was an employee of the Trinidad Embassy in Washington, DC. It was in that city that she met her future husband, John H. Blackwell (1934-2002), a native of Philadelphia. The couple married in Philadelphia in June 1963.
Over the years, Mrs. Blackwell resided in Washington, Landover, Maryland, and Long Island, New York. Eventually, she would return to Maryland and settle in the Owen Brown section of Columbia. She identified as a Roman Catholic, and her faith held deep meaning for her.
In addition to many loving friends and family members, Mary Blackwell is survived by her adult children, Donna Marie, Dustin Joseph, and Dennis John (ne David), as well as her beloved grandchildren, Meagan, Trystan, and Christopher.
A funeral mass in Mrs. Blackwell’s memory will be held on September 6, 2024 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Columbia. An additional service will take place in Trinidad.
