Marilyn T Esham, aged 90, of Glenwood, MD passed away on January 18, 2018. Born on September 10, 1927 in Binghamton, NY, she was the daughter of Harold and Frances Thompson. The family moved to Catonsville, MD in 1937. She graduated from Catonsville High School in 1944 and then Bard Avon School in Baltimore to attend their Executive Secretarial training program at which she excelled. Following that she was employed by Sherwood Brothers, a subsidiary of Sinclair Oil Company, as assistant to the president, John R. Sherwood.
She met her future husband Powell W Esham of Berlin, MD(who predeceased her on 12/15/10) and they were married in 1954 in Catonsville. After raising 3 children she rejoined the workforce at the Kelly Girl Temp Agency before taking a permanent position with Retail Stores Service. She worked for RSS for over 20 years, working her way up to co-owner of the company. She loved attending the Furniture Markets each year in Highpoint, NC and Dallas, TX.
In her spare time, Marilyn loved to cook and had an extensive collection of cookbooks. She was also an avid reader. She enjoyed traveling and took many trips to explore New England with her husband as well as to Florida and Illinois to visit family and friends.
She is survived by her children Richard P Esham of Glen Burnie, MD, Sally Fletcher of Glen Burnie, MD and Kathleen E Erskine of Woodbine, MD, son-in-law’s Earl T Fletcher, JR and Michael D Erskine, DVM, granddaughters Ashley Fletcher Schreiner, Shannon Fletcher Bricker and Olivia Erskine. She is also survived by her sister, Connie Dechant of Lockport, IL as well as a step-granddaughter Amber Swan and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Louis Catholic Church Chapel, 12500 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029 on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 11:00 am followed by inurnment at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.
