(Age 90)
On April 7, 2014, Margaret J. “Peggy” Calvert passed away peacefully at her home at Vantage House in Columbia. Born in Washington, D.C., she attended Mary Washington College and with her late husband of 66 years, Gordon L. Calvert, raised a family in Silver Spring and subsequently in Bethesda. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, and Columbia Country Club. In 1943, while dating Gordon, she won the annual “Dream Girl” title for his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha. For many years she sang in the choir at the Woodside Methodist Church in Silver Spring and enjoyed playing tennis regularly with family and friends. She took pleasure in spending leisure time at the Delaware beaches and at the family cabin outside Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. In later years, she enjoyed oil painting and traveling with Gordon and family friends. She was the beloved mother of Gordon (Irene), Roger (Barbara), and Walter (Cynthia) Calvert, grandmother of Jennifer, Gordon, Benjamin, Randall, Evan, Katherine, and Sarah, and great-grandmother of eight.
