Marcia Jane Blackburn of Columbia, MD passed away on Friday, October 6th, 2023. She was born on February 22nd, 1943, in East Providence, RI, and was the daughter of the late Joseph J. Boylan and Miriam L. (Boardman) Boylan.
Marcia attended East Providence High School in Providence, RI and graduated in 1961. After graduation she began her career working with computer technology, which would later become her profession. She took time away from work to be a homemaker and raise her sons, Jeff, and Tim.
In 1972, the family moved to the planned community of Columbia, MD where she continued to raise her sons. After several years she resumed her career. Marcia worked in Howard Community College’s computer department during the school’s infancy, and later worked as a computer programmer with American Systems Group, the American Red Cross, and Keane Federal Systems. She retired in 2004 after a successful IT career spanning almost 40 years.
Marcia and Norm met in 1980 and immediately hit it off. The couple had a mutual love for skiing and sailing. Over the next 2 decades they would spend vacations on the ski slopes and sail the Chesapeake Bay and the islands of the Caribbean, Greece, and Italy. They were also fond of Maryland’s Eastern Shore beaches.
Marcia had many skills and talents. She was an incredible host and chef who made her home a special place to celebrate holidays and gatherings. She loved to entertain family and friends at her home. When she was not hosting, Marcia enjoyed gardening.
Marcia was very proud of her sons, and adored their wives. She was a loving grandmother to Riley, Lyndie, and Joe. She attended countless events at schools, and sports fields, and shared Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and birthdays with them. The trio adored their Nana and looked forward to seeing her every chance they got. They loved visiting their grandparents’ home knowing Nana would make “Nana noodles” and tasty desserts for them to enjoy. Riley, Lyndie, and Joe were lucky to have their Nana live so close by. The fond memories they made together will last a lifetime.
Marcia was predeceased by her parents. She leaves her husband, Norman, brother David Boylan, sister Janice Manley, her two sons Jeff (Stacy) and Tim (Elizabeth), three grandchildren, Riley, Lyndie, and Joe, nieces and nephews, and many fury grandpets.
