Those who knew Justin, appreciated his refreshing candor, dry sense of humor, and quiet confidence. Straightforward, calculated, and focused, Justin set his mind on achieving the best for himself and his family. Every choice he made was from a place of love, loyalty, and respect. Formality, ceremony, or
obligatory tradition did not hold weight for Justin. He believed one could show the world who one was through quiet action as there was no need for a “show.” He taught his kids that people, institutions, and groups that were non-inclusive were a waste of time.
Justin’s tight-knit community consisted of connections he made growing up in Oakland Mills. He was a student at Stevens Forest Elementary, Oakland Mills Middle, and a 1998 graduate of Oakland Mills High. He left the “Columbia bubble” to attend school at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA with several friends from OMHS. Justin’s fondest memories came from his years in Louisiana, meeting many of his closest friends. He returned to Maryland to graduate from Morgan State University in 2003. Justin and Nadia married in 2004 and moved to Baltimore County. A salesman at heart, his career expanded with positions at M&T Bank, Tricerat, Tenable, and ServiceNow. In 2013, Justin, Nadia, Shayla, and Kaylin returned to Columbia to live in the home he grew up in off Farewell Road. He reconnected with friends from grade school and loved that his daughters attended the same schools as he did and befriended the children of his childhood friends. In 2016, Justin and Nadia
started their journey to become foster parents. In 2018, the family adopted Amiyah through foster care. Becoming a foster parent and joining a loving foster care community proved to be Justin’s
calling. Whenever asked why he became a foster parent, he responded, "because I was blessed, I will bless others."
