Although I only got to work with John for less than two years, he played a significant role in my life by being one of the most humble and intelligent people I have ever met. I am going to miss our fun and creative brainstorming python sessions as well as our random conversations about technology, dogs, hair, and food. 

At work, he never came off stressed to me while putting out fires, and he always provided solutions for everyone. One random conversation that Philip, him, and I had was about commenting how we wish we could be as smart as this person when we grow up, and I told John I want to be just as smart as him when I grow up. I still hope to be as smart as him when I grow up! He was such a huge inspiration: his job, dog training, and hair haha.

John was a great person and colleague. We only worked together for a year and a half, but in that short time he brought excellence to everything he did. He was smart, dynamic, and flexible. More importantly, he was a good person that everyone enjoyed working with, trusted and relied upon and he made the people he worked with better.

He will be sorely missed by me, our company, and his co-workers.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Foster's passing. I worked closely with him for years, from teaching together in DC and Chicago, to managing our development projects with him. He was always a source of strength and positivity for all those around him. Foster has been one of the most genuine, wonderful people I have ever met.

John Rigney 

I met John mid-COVID in November 2020 when he and his friends invited me to sing in their pandemic band, masked up and in separate corners of a basement. When that basement was no longer available, he generously opened up his home to us for practicing. From the beginning, he was always upbeat and optimistic and motivated us all to keep playing and keep improving. His talent and dedication was impressive and playing with him was an honor. Our Wednesday night jam sessions and gig planning was one of the highlights of my week. He will be sorely missed.

I first met John back in January, when our company partnered with his talented NERC EISAC team. From the very outset, I was awestruck by his profound knowledge and logical reasoning. He was this genius guy who could turn the most tangled problems into a walk in the park.
John’s charisma was such that we could not help but gravitate towards him. What also made John special was his heart. His kindness, his easy humor, his  patience - they drew people in.  I vividly recall the times I would approach him, with heart racing over a seemingly complex task, only for him to sit patiently with me on a call, navigating through the chaos until it all made sense. His calming presence, would bring a sense of serenity to the most tumultuous situations.
 Our morning stand-ups just don't feel right without him. I keep expecting to hear his voice on the call, to see his face on the screen. The surreal reality of his departure is a bitter pill that I find difficult to swallow even now. We really miss him. 
I extend my deepest sympathies to John's family during this heartbreaking time.

I met John last year when the company I work for was trying to become the selected Salesforce partner to work with John and his team at NERC E-ISAC. We started working together in January and have enjoyed every day working with such an intelligent and gifted man. John had a way of making every problem just seem easy. He was a great partner – so eager to work well together. He was so kind and patient and a great teacher. We all miss seeing him every morning during stand-up, often with his dogs. We miss his knowledge, his guidance, his humor, … we miss him. 

To John’s family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. 


John and I have been friends since he and my wife were in a music school together and decided to start a band with two other musicians. They all met in our basement once a week for years. Due to COVID it was quite a while before I even saw his face!
After the sale of our house, that same group continued meeting in John and Amy’s basement. 

My employer hired John allowing us to be co-workers as well as friends. He joined the team and immediately became a part of it that felt like he’d always been there. 

During all that time (solving problems at work, practicing music, seeing live bands and concerts, having dinners out) John has been an upbeat, intelligent, curious and genuine, friend. 

I will sorely miss our incredibly nerdy conversations.

He is very much loved.

John was an incredibly smart and helpful colleague that I have worked with in the last few months. When I joined the team early April , I found him to be so helpful in guiding me get started and as my 'support' guy whenever I am trying to figure out something technical or bounce off design ideas.  It doesn't take very long to notice his brilliance and willingness to help or spend time talking things. I feel really sad that I didn't get to spend so much time with him to get to know him more. It is very difficult logging to work and realizing, he is not there, an experience I would never forget.  John, I miss you greatly and pray that you find comfort with your Lord. To John's family, I pray that God will give you the fortitude to be this irreparable loss. 

I am saddened to hear about Foster's passing, and honored and grateful to have known him as a colleague and a friend.  Watching him evolve from Point3's first employee into a stoic and compassionate leader of a team of nearly 40 was downright inspiring.  He was always willing to go the extra mile for those around him, always.  He is already deeply missed, and I hope these words help to honor John's memory.

Sometimes in life we come across people whose impact will always be felt in your heart. John is one of those people for me. 

We worked very closely together over the last year, and my days are noticeably empty without him. He was the person I spoke to the most and I still find myself wanting to text him a meme I think he'd find hilarious.  Our days were filled with banter back and forth during meetings , but also discussions about fantasy worlds, lore or as John likes to call it "Nerd Stuff". Infact during lunch last month, he turned to me and said "You like nerd stuff, we should check out this cool comic book store near you". There's so many things I'll always associate with him now as a result, phrases like :  "Nerd Stuff, "The black internet", "Let's play-by-play that" and "Please don't say Marketing Cloud". 

 I haven't defaulted to using the past tense with him because all this still remains true for me. (And if I'm being honest, I still can't believe it's real)  He will remembered, as he is. Forever , John will undoubtedly be one of the smartest, wittiest and kindest human beings I will ever know.  

We all love him so much, and that love is extended to his family during this time.

As others have gracefully conveyed, John was a star contributor to the E-ISAC team. While my interactions with him were brief, John made a lasting impression and was known for delivery, results, and a positive attitude. I send my deepest condolences to John's family in this time of loss. 

John will be greatly missed and I'm honored to have worked with such a professional.  Not only did he exemplify professionalism, John also gave off this radiant positive energy that you couldn't ignore. I'm blessed to have met him during this time. My prayers go out to all the family, friends, and work colleagues during this difficult time.

I was so sorry to hear about John's passing.  Even only knowing him as a virtual teammate from hear in Atlanta, his kindness, intellect, engagement, and authenticity as a person was readily apparent.  Even then I could tell he had a love for his dogs, a love for music, and pursued excellence in whatever he did.  He will be greatly missed.



John Foster was an extraordinary friend and colleague, and his untimely passing has left a profound void. He consistently displayed unwavering kindness, always ready and eager to lend a helping hand. His boundless creativity and significant contributions greatly impacted our team. Although our time together as colleagues was regrettably short, the memories we shared are cherished and will forever be held dear. During this difficult time, my prayers and heartfelt sympathies are with the family.

This message is going to get a bit rambly but I want to share a few memories.

I met John through work at NERC but we quickly became friends outside of it. We worked on the same team and he was SUCH a huge part of it - not just for his intellectual contributions but in the overall spirit, moral of the team. To John, projects were either “easy peasy lemon squeezy” or “messy stressy lemon depressy”, which to me just perfectly embodies how wholesome John is. On the days where work was really challenging, we would eat Oreos for breakfast together on video calls and that would make the day better. It makes me both laugh and cry to think about it, just how many early-morning Oreos we would all eat.

When I was pregnant with my (now) 11 month old son, John was the one to un-convince me and then re-convince me to name him Sam. When I talked about the name, John kept joking that it sounded like Sam Spade from the Maltese Falcon. Which I of course freaked out about, but ultimately came around on and we laughed about biasing the baby towards a career solving crime.

In June 2021 I took my brother's family to see John’s band play at Philip's block party. My niece was 5 years old at the time and absolutely STARSTRUCK to meet “real life rockstars!!!”. John was so nice to her and let her touch his guitar. We all laughed as she danced and danced, then joined in ourselves. She talked about that day for months.

I wish John were still here… There's so much happiness he brought to the people around him, thank you for letting me reminisce. His friends love him very much. And all our love goes out to his family.

There really are no words that can help very much at a time like this. I am very sorry for your loss and am praying as much as I can for healing of all who loved and knew John. I was saddened to hear of John’s passing.  I worked with John when I was the Director of Force Education and Training in the Office of the Secretary of Defense.  John was an intelligent, thoughtful, and engaging person. We had some great conversations as we were  designing the Cyber Operations Academy Course.  My deepest condolences to Amy and John’s family.   “Throw a nickel on the grass”. You will not soon be forgotten John.  RIP brother!

John was one of the kindest and most generous individuals on our team. He was always so quick to help others with patience and grace. He will be missed. I’m praying that his family is surrounded with peace.

John was a kind, helpful and exceedingly bright colleague. I will miss working with him and I send all my prayers of comfort and healing to those who knew him best.

John (always "Foster" to me) was a colleague first and then a friend. We bonded a lot over solving problems in software, or talking about games, books, and music. I always appreciated his insight and opinions, and I'll greatly miss our conversations. He was one of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of knowing.
